Sea-Doos Take Manhattan! (Or At Least The East River!)

Yesterday was one of those true summer-solstice days – the second of three consecutive spectacular days we have been enjoying – and mid-morning while in the kitchen I heard what a thought was the sound of a sea plane approaching the River for a landing.  But after a minute, I realized what I was hearing was no sea plane, so I walked to the window to see what was going on.

I saw this:

Now, I see Sea-Doos in the River almost every day in the summer, and they do travel in packs, but those packs are mostly in threes – sometime fours – and I have never seen so many racing down the River all at once.

They kept coming…

At one point, they starting coming down River on the other side of Roosevelt Island…

…only to meet up with others traveling on THIS side:

It was an impressive sight all right, but I wasn’t REALLY impressed until I watched them all gather together, idling…

Was it a club, or a large group of tourists renting Sea-Doos all at once?  I’ll never know.

When they began to move again…

…they sounded like a swarm of electric bees taken to the water:

It was a unique way to welcome a Sunday morning, that’s for sure.  A first for me after having lived here for almost 20 years.  And to think that next week, we will have some REAL entertainment on the River for the 4th of July!  Gotta empty that camera and get ready…
